The history of stargateworlds and the real people behind it.

This article has taken me some time to put together, there maybe errors in the dates, but post a comment and I can fix them, if you find anything I have missed also comment and I will amend.  I know I may have made mistakes, but dont flame me, just post some comments and I can amend.

summer of 2002:
Three game designers and raving fans of the Stargate movie and TV series had an idea. They wanted to create a massively multiplayer online game (MMO) based on the Stargate franchise. The nascent project was called Stargate Worlds.
Jim Brown, Todd Ellering and Daryl Wofford are the original SGW game foundation.

15-June-2005:
Mr Whiting is brought on board to find investors and raise capitol for Todd Ellering and Jim Brown (CME), he is brought in as a known business acquaintance from past business dealings as he used TAE Technologies as a hosting services.

Mr. Whiting begins raising capital from investors for Jim Brown, Todd Ellering and Daryl Wofford online game utilizing the Stargate franchise.

1-July-2005:
After several long years of development and negotiations with MGM Interactive, Todd Ellering (President of TAE Technologies) and Jim Brown have finally brought their idea and dream together with funding to build a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) based on the popular Stargate ™ license.

1-July-2005:
Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, an interactive entertainment publisher and developer, hires industry legend Joe Ybarra as director of operations.

1-August-2005:
Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, an interactive entertainment publisher and developer, has named Timothy Jenson president and CEO.

15-September-2005:
CME obtains the rights and IP to develop Stargate-related online games.

25-January-2006
MGM Interactive and Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment formally announced their agreement to develop Stargate Worlds, an MMO-RPG based on the popular Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis franchise. View more information at http://www.cheyenneme.com. TAE president Todd Ellering is a founder of Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment.

5-February-2006:

Press junket released for the upcoming MMORPG Stargateworlds.

Answering questions and detailing their plan for the future of this game were Tim Jensen, CEO and Joe Ybarra, VP of Product Development. People get a first impression of what stargateworlds and what to expect of the game when it done.

1-March-2006:
Stargate Worlds community site launched. Visit it at http://www.stargateworlds.com.

3-March-2006:
Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, a game development company, announced that it has chosen the BigWorld Technology Suite as the platform for its new MMORPG, Stargate Worlds.

15-March-2006:
First concepts of artwork screen shots are released.

1-May-2006:
Stargate Worlds Named “Most Anticipated MMO” by Ten Ton Hammer

August 21, 2006
Much to everyone’s disappointment Stargate SG-1 is canceled, but on a good note Atlantis gets renewed.

29-August-2006:
Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment announced today that they have licensed Unreal Engine 3 to create a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) based on the highly popular science fiction television series Stargate from MGM. Cheyenne’s VP says Unreal Engine 3 will allow them to “deliver ground-breaking game content for Stargate Worlds commensurate with the quality of the #1 rated sci-fi franchise and future multi-platform games.”
At the press release Joe Ybarra, who’s the Cheyenne Mountain’s vice president of product development, said that the Unreal Engine 3’s combination of “robust graphics environment with extensible development tools” is the perfect thing for the needs of the company for creating a “ground-breaking game content for Stargate Worlds.” Stargate Worlds is scheduled to be release in 2007.

Nov 15, 2006:
Industry leader Rod Nakamoto has been named vice president and studio head for Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment (CME). Mr. Nakamoto will be a key part of CME’s push to develop cutting-edge interactive entertainment.

15-November-2006:
CME announced that Stargate Worlds had moved from pre-production to enter the production phase of the games development

18-October-2007:
Stargate Worlds, the upcoming sci-fi MMORPG being developed by Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment and based off of the long-running television series Stargate SG-1, will be hitting your computers in the fourth quarter of 2008. The news was slipped to us by Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment’s senior marketing manager, Kevin Balentine, as he discussed how the development of the game was progressing. Here’s what Kevin had to say: “We’ve got a playable version of the game inside of our building. I’m not prepared to release our beta schedule yet, but I can say that we’re going to be releasing the game in the fourth quarter of next year. You can do the math and figure out when our beta program will be.”

21-December-2007:
MGM Studios — in collaboration with Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment and the SCI FI Channel — have just announced a new sweepstakes promotion that will put the winner “inside” the highly anticipated new video game, Stargate Worlds!

4-January-2008:
Stargate Worlds MMORPG Premiere trailer aired on January 4, 2008 on the Sci-Fi channel during the Stargate Atlantis episode “Be All My Sins Remembered”.

15-April-2008:
The last post update is made on the CME news section is made on the Official CME website, nothing is posted after this date.

17-April-2008:
FireSky, a newly established video game publisher and subsidiary of Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, today announced plans to handle publishing duties for Cheyenne’s upcoming MMO; Stargate Worlds.

24-April-2008:
Firesky announces they are now taking registrations for the BETA.

17-May-2008:
Holy Hannah! In only half a month the closed beta registration list for Stargate Worlds has exceeded 100,000 applications!

9-June-2008:
Stargate Worlds New Site Opens, Interviews Elggren

16-June-2008:
Friends and Family beta access starts.

15-July-2008:
Closed Beta starts accepting testers.

25-July-2008:
New gameplay video released.

19-July-2008:

Rumors start appearing about monetary issues at CME.

19-September-2008:
New youtube channel created solely for SGW.

13-October-2008:
Stargate Worlds Closed beta set for Wednesday Kickoff.

15-October-2008:
Stargate Worlds Closed beta officially starts.

5-November-2008:
Last screen shot/wallpaper posted for a long time.

5-December-2008:
CME officially responds to rumors of staff without pay.

10-December-2008:
First stage of closed Beta ends.

17-December-2008:
SGW Merchandise shop website announced.

17-March-2009:
CME sued over unpaid bills.

18-March-2009:
First screen shot released in nearly 6 months. Was this damage control from the previous days news?

6-April-2009:
Stargate executive producer Brad Wright echoes the feelings of thousands of fans, calling the delay of Cheyenne Mountain’s massively multiplayer Stargate Worlds “a terrible shame.”

7-April-2009:
In response to Brad Wrights comments.
CME: Stargate Worlds is coming (press release to ease fears that the game will not be completed).

MMORPG video game Stargate Worlds is still in active development and will be released, a representative of producer Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment told GateWorld Friday.

12-May2009:
More screen shots released of not seen before archaeologists. Nearly a 2 month wait for new screen shots.

17-May-2009:
Micheal Shanks jumps on the band wagon and calls SGW a “failing game”, much to his own amusement.

26-May-2009:
Last news posted on stargateworlds with 4 new screen shots.
